Reverse Your Ceiling Fans

If you’re not reversing the direction of your ceiling fan when the seasons change, you’re going to see a significant increase on your heating costs.

To save energy, the filter on your system needs to be changed to ensure the airflow is not restricted. Not only does changing your filter save on your bill, it also extends your furnace lifespan.

System Maintenance

Having preventative maintenance completed for your furnace is a great way to save energy. This is another way help you prolong your HVAC’s life and ensure it is properly working, not only for the winter, but all year long.

Use Your Windows to Your Advantage

Open your windows during the day for some natural, free heat from the sun. At night, make sure you close your curtains for extra insulation. (Invest in some super thick ones if you don’t have double-paned windows).

Plug Leaks

Seal all the gaps that may have formed around windows and doors with caulk or weather stripping. Don’t forget attic hatches, vents, and baseboards leaks. You can install gaskets behind your electrical outlets to prevent cold air intrusion.

LED lights

So you want to be festive and decorate for the holidays? Save energy by using only LED lights. They use only a small fraction of energy that regular lights use. Another advantage is they do not burn out as fast at the older lights.

Adjustable Thermostats

These can be found super cheap and are great for savings. You can adjust them to a lower temperature at night or when your not at home.

Do Not Use Exhaust Fans

Don’t use bathroom or kitchen fans unless absolutely necessary. You are sucking out perfectly good heat and those hot steamy showers can save you money!

Close off Unused Rooms

Turn off the vents and close the doors to any unused space. Don’t forget to put a towel or blanket at the door to block the air flow.
